Mercy Memorial Wins Oklahoma Certified Healthy Business Recognition
Ardmore—Mercy Memorial Health Center was recently
recognized for being an Oklahoma certified healthy business by providing
health and wellness opportunities for co-workers. The awards program,
sponsored by the Oklahoma Academy, the Oklahoma State Department of
Health, the Oklahoma Turning Point Council and the state Chamber of
Commerce, was initiated in 2003. An awards luncheon was held in the
Phillips Pavilion at the Governor’s Mansion in Oklahoma City earlier
this month.
In 2006, Mercy Memorial developed a health and
wellness program for its co-workers called Healthy Living Program (He.L.P.).
Today, the program continues with over 200 co-workers actively
participating by exercising regularly and completing annual health risk
assessments, provided at no charge by Mercy Memorial. More recently, the
hospital teamed up with the local YMCA to offer additional exercise and
training activities. Various contests and incentives are given each year
to encourage co-workers to maintain healthy lifestyles.
Local Turning Point Coalition chairperson, Mercy
Memorial patient advocate, and a Sister of Mercy, Sister Carolyn Stoutz,
attended the awards luncheon to accept the award on behalf of Mercy
Memorial. “I hope other local businesses and educational facilities will
be encouraged to participate in this program and compete for awards next
year,” said Stoutz. “By working together, we can all have a positive
impact on helping improve the health of Oklahomans at home, in the
community and on the job.”
Mercy Memorial Health Center is a member of Mercy
Health System of Oklahoma and the Sisters of Mercy Health System.
